In Tokyo, there are streets and areas known for categories of specialty stores.
Just like Akihabara, where electronics and anime are famous, Kappabashi Dougu Do-ri is where stores only sell cooking-related items such as utensils, tools, and professional equipment. It's not far from the most visited tourist spot Asakusa and is easy to find and get to.
There you see a wide variety of shops that sell everything from commercial equipment to cooking tools and plates for household use.
It's an amazing mix of shops and people. Not only is this area popular with tourists but it's also where professional chefs and culinary professionals shop.
Japanese knives are deservedly world famous for the craftsmanship and its traditional techniques of their ease of use and sharpness and people from all over the world flock here to procure them.
I'm also obsessed with cooking tools. I looked around at various pots, pans, rice bowls etc., in different shapes and sizes, and unique Japanese original and traditional items. The great thing about this area is just when I think I've seen it all I come across something that makes me “Wow!”
Can you guess what it is?
It’s a lemon slice squeezing tool!
Lemon squeezers are usually big bulky things like this one.
And lemon juice is used for cooking or making lemonade so on~
However, what I found was very small, and it was made of metal
Hmmm…How do you use it, and for what purpose?
Seems to be very common here in Japan, but I was somewhat surprised to learn how to use it.
